Social Democrat Controversy over Profits in Private Schools What are private schools allowed to do with their profits? Well the questions is controversial within the Social Democratic party. Ahead of the party's kongress in a month's time, as many as 25 local groups want the profits from the private schools regulated, and some wants a ban on using the profits for anything else than reinvesting them in the school. The Social Democratic leadership has now come up with a compromise, which proposes more power to the local councils when someone wants to open a private school, as well as stricter regulation of the quality of the school. As party leader Mona Sahlin says: "it is not the profit that is the problem, but it is the quality for the children that has been too low."
