| Hunt for Pirates After Ship Seized Off Swedish Coast Russian warships have now joined in the search for a missing cargo ship now believed to have been seized by pirates off the Swedish coast last month.In the first case of modern piracy in European waters, the armed gang posing as Swedish policeman seized the Maltese flagged , Finnish owned merchant ship Arctic sea off the Swedish island of Öland on July the 24th, a day after it set sail from Finland carring timber believed to be worth in the region of 1 million pounds and bound for Algeria.There are conflicting reports over whether the pirates, after tying up the Russian crew, left the vessel having stolen a few items or in fact stayed on board.The ship seems to have vanished with its last known whereabouts off the english channel.The Russian navy has sent ships from the Atlantic to join the search.
